TWolfBlogSpot: Newtown, please forgive us.

What is this world that we live in, where any armed man, woman or child can walk into a school, or post-office, or place of work and start blowing people away?

No.

That’s not even the right question.

There are guns, yes. But guns don’t kill children. People kill children. Without people…

hangry
1. hungry and angry;
2. the irrational emotional state that occurs when one has waited too long to eat;
Example: “I’m sorry I flipped out when you glanced at that tree, I think I’m just hangry.”
During a sound healing circle in 2005, my friend Yves, said the word “angry”. Because of his accent, the word came out “hangry”. In that moment, my Magpie and I decided that this was the perfect word to describe the phenomenon that occurred whenever one of us waited too long to eat. Ever since, whenever one of us is getting our grump on, the first thing we do is check in to make sure we’re not just hangry! Our friends LOVE this word, so I thought I’d share it with all of you…

TWolfBlogSpot: The Problem of Teaching Bi-gendered Language in a Multi-gendered World

twolfblogspot:

Recently, someone I know, who is training to become a teacher in a fairly progressive setting, posted a question on Facebook. The problem, as I understood it, was this: How does one teach masculine & feminine nouns, without reinforcing gender stereotypes and/or alienating those whose experience…

base jumping (Transitions Series)

how is it exactly

that one goes about learning the ropes

when there is no one around to teach you

how to climb?

i choose to set forth

regardless

moved

by my own will

i often fail

to tie the knots correctly

i am unsure of my footing

i hold the rope to loosely

no

too tight

i am certain

that the weight of the air will not hold me

(how often

do you leap from great heights

without a parachute)

it is not only the bruises

incurred by this fall that concern me

it is the pain of each one passed

the echoes of my soul

i am imprinted

by shiny silver coins

that stick to my skin in the heat and ache

and sting

when you pull them off

relentlessly

carving my own path i am free but

i can only scrape the surface

and sometimes there is powder

on my hands

when i say i love you unforgivingly

passion consumes reason

at every turn the clock ticking away

moments stolen

behind the moonlight

sneaking shadows under my pillow

breathless

but for a monstrous dream of perfection

snowing

i lit candles in the window

flickered through my lashes closing

to shut out the dust of past bellows

breathe life to fire

in brick red moments

anchored

it’s been over a week now and

there are worse things than your body

they are dredging from that lake:

your mother’s heart

26 years of beating in time with yours and

your tiny hands now grown & pointing fingers

at every mistake she’s ever made

there are worse things than your body

they are dredging from that lake:

your father’s reflection

26 years of himself in your eyes and

his own arms the first to teach you

        not to fear the water

there are worse things than your body

they are dredging from that lake:

your young wife’s dreams

60 anniversaries that are never going to

        happen and

        a nightmare of guilt

for each harsh word you shared

there are worse things than your body

they are dredging from that lake:

your son’s only anchor

first abandoned by his mother and

        now a lifetime of healing

though he’s only 4 years old

there are worse things than your body

they are dredging from that lake:

the corpse of your companion

        invincible at 18 and

        his family’s grief

        running deeper than the bottom

there are worse things than your body

they are dredging from that lake:

(they found you both today)
